Henry Clive (born Henry O’Hara, 1883–1960) was an Australian-born American illustrator and former magician who became known for his glamorous Art Deco paintings. After starting as a stage magician in Melbourne, he moved to the U.S., acted in silent films, and worked in Hollywood as an art director before focusing on illustration. He created covers for magazines like The American Weekly and portraits of stars such as Gloria Swanson and Rudolph Valentino.
His 1925 painting Sultana is one of his most famous works, depicting an exotic, opulent fantasy scene in rich Art Deco style. The piece reflects Clive’s talent for blending Hollywood glamour with romanticized, theatrical settings.
